BeiGene Plans to Add Energy Efficiency, RE
BeiGene, Ltd., a global oncology company, is implementing a strategy that includes energy efficiency projects and renewable energy purchases, including installing solar panels on its manufacturing facilities to help it lower emissions.
Already nearing completion, the flagship U.S. biologics manufacturing and R&D facility at the Princeton West Innovation Campus in Hopewell, New Jersey, has incorporated energy efficiency and renewable concepts in its design and construction, including accommodations to add a rooftop solar array in the future. This new campus will serve as a prototype for the company’s on-site renewable energy efforts in the future.
In 2023, the company announced its first quantitative climate goal to lower its Scope 1 and 2 emissions, which are emissions generated by owned and operated facilities, by 25% per unit of internally manufactured commercial product by 2026 from a 2021 base year.
Details were released in its 2023 Responsible Business & Sustainability Report.
“Our commitment to innovation extends beyond our labs, and as a leading global oncology company with an ongoing mission to being a good corporate citizen, we know we must continue to do right not only by our patients, colleagues and stakeholders, but also the communities in which we operate,” said John V. Oyler, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO at BeiGene, in a statement.
