Meadow Ridge Breaks Ground on Solar Installation

Meadow Ridge, a luxury continuing care retirement community in Redding, Connecticut, announced it has broken ground on a new solar installation.

The project is expected to provide 897,700 kWh of electricity, or 17% of the facility’s annual power consumption. The solar panels will save Meadow Ridge an estimated $7.6 million in energy costs over their useful life.

The solar energy produced will offset 627 metric tons of carbon during each year of operation.

The project is being built by Verogy, a solar company in West Hartford. It will include three arrays, two of which will be placed on top of new carports. The third array will be installed on the rooftop of Meadow Ridge’s sub-acute rehabilitation and nursing center, Ridge Crest.

Meadow Ridge’s solar installation is made possible through a commercial property-assessed clean energy (CPACE) loan from the Connecticut Green Bank, zero-emission renewable energy credits (ZRECS) through Eversource, and investment tax credits.

“This is an important moment, not only for Meadow Ridge but also for senior living communities as a whole,” said Meadow Ridge Chief Operating Officer Brett Mehlman, in a statement. “Communities like Meadow Ridge have a tremendous opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint and add value for their residents by incorporating green energy alternatives. I’m grateful for the work of our Solar Committee, which saw this through from an idea to where we are today.”

The project is slated for completion later this year.
