Case Study: Largest Solar and BESS Installation on O’ahu to Energize ~10,000 Homes

How did the Kūpono Solar installation – a partnership with a utility, the Navy, and an energy services provider – transform underutilized land to host a solar and storage system that will power ~10,000 homes on O’ahu, Hawai'i with clean and reliable energy?

This case study from Ameresco explains how the company partnered with Hawaiian Electric (HECO), the U.S. Navy, and the community to develop the Kūpono Solar Project, which addresses the growing need for energy security on the island of O’ahu.  As the largest solar and BESS facility on the island, the project is designed to deliver 42 MW of clean, renewable energy to the local grid and will:

  • Reduce dependence on fossil fuels, creating a pathway to energy independence
  • Stabilize cost of energy for HECO customers
  • Create local jobs and boost the economy
