AptarGroup Signs Solar PPAs
AptarGroup, Inc. — a global drug and consumer product dosing, dispensing and protection technologies company — announced the signing of a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the output of three agrivoltaic solar farms in Sicily, Italy: Landolina, Sughero Torto and Sardella.
This energy strategy, in addition to creating environmental benefits, provides a more localized source of renewable energy dedicated to Aptar.
The agreement was signed with Nadara, an European independent power producer (IPP) of onshore wind.
Per the terms of the agreement, Aptar will purchase the renewable generation output of three solar farms for a 10-year period covering approximately 40% of Aptar’s electricity needs in the region, with the remaining needs in the region continuing to be covered by RECs.
All three solar farms are expected to be operational in 2026, with Landolina already having begun operations in 2024. The combined energy generation output will be around 100 GWh annually when all three solar farms are fully operational.
Since 2019, nearly 100% of Aptar’s electricity usage in Europe has been covered through the purchase of RECs to facilitate minimal CO2 impact of its electricity consumption.
“Increasing renewable electricity is an important part of our sustainability strategy and Aptar is proud to have already achieved over 95% sourcing of renewables within our operations,” said Beth Holland, Aptar’s Chief Sustainability Officer, in a statement. “Entering into a PPA with Nadara is the next step in maturity in this area, securing long-term energy availability that will power our future operations. We are committed to the goal of 100% renewable electricity procurement by 2030, as aligned with our science-based targets, and this partnership ensures we maintain our progress towards that goal.”
