NYSERDA Purchases Wind REC

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) signed a purchase agreement for the full output of renewable energy certificates (RECs) from Heritage Wind, located in Orleans County, New York.

The 126-MW project will help support New York’s transition to a carbon-free electricity grid by 2040.

The project is expected to begin commercial operations in 2026. NYSERDA signed an agreement with Apex Clean Energy.

Heritage Wind will generate enough clean energy to power approximately 32,000 homes and create nearly $30 million in new revenue for the Town of Barre over the project’s lifetime, plus $3.5 million each for the Albion School District and Orleans County.

“Through our large-scale renewable program, and Apex Clean Energy’s commitment to renewable energy projects like Heritage Wind, New York is on a path to providing zero-emission electricity statewide,” said NYSERDA President and CEO Doreen M. Harris in a statement. “Additionally, public-private partnerships like those with Apex Clean Energy are bringing significant economic benefits to local communities, including job creation and delivering energy savings directly to residents—as seen in the Town of Barre.”
