Maryland farm agrees to host 2.7 MW solar array
The Fritz Family Farms in New Windsor, Md., has agreed to use 12 acres of their 400 grain, hay and cattle farm as the site of a new 2.7 MW solar project that will sell clean energy to a local water and wastewater utility.
The 7,336-panel solar array will be financed and owned by Standard Solar, who will sell the 4,000 MWh of expected electricity generation to Maryland’s WSSC Water.
“This project provides economic benefit to the landowner, operator and community while harnessing clean renewable energy,” Jeffrey Fritz of Fritz Family Farms, LLC, said in a statement. “We have been using our own solar energy in our operation since 2014 and felt this was an excellent opportunity to diversify our income.”
The single-axis tracking solar array was built for Maryland’s Virtual Aggregate Net Energy Metering (ANEM) program through a partnership between Standard Solar, Earth and Air Technologies LLC and Ogos Energy LLC.
