Analytics software maker SAS commits to net-zero
Analytics software company SAS announced Aug. 6 their support for the Paris Agreement and NC Clean Energy Plan and that they have committed to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
In 2019, SAS reduced absolute emissions by 3.9%, which is 23.5% lower than their 2011 baseline, and improved carbon use intensity for their U.S. office buildings by 50%. They also achieved their goal of adding 50% more charging stations at their headquarters and earned LEED certifications for their Toronto location and their newest office building at their world headquarters.
To achieve their net-zero target, SAS plans to invest in high-efficiency AI-enabled energy technologies, smart sensors, renewable energy, electric vehicle infrastructure and LEED best practices. The company also plans to establish science-based targets and uses their own software to manage and report environmental performance.
"For decades, SAS has combined corporate social responsibility and innovation with our software to address economic, social and environmental issues," SAS CEO Jim Goodnight said in a statement. "While we all are trying to adapt to our new normal during COVID-19, SAS' values still hold true – we treat people like they matter and work together with each other and our customers to make a better, safer world and create a more sustainable future."
