HNI Corporation aims for 100% RE by 2030
HNI Corporation announced Oct. 21 that it had joined the RE100 initiative and set a goal for 100% renewable electricity by 2030.
The office furnishing manufacturer also established science-based targets and pledged to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 35% by 2025 compared to a 2018 baseline. It also plans to reduce Scope 3 emissions by 40% per ton of goods sold by 2035 from that same baseline.
HNI Corporation also became a signatory of the UN Global Company as a way to further dedicate its operations to sustainability. The company plans to use its goal of procuring 100% renewable as the primary way of reducing its Scope 1 and 2 emissions while implementing energy efficiency projects throughout its manufacturing facilities for the remaining emissions.
To meet its Scope 3 target, HNI Corporation plans to research and develop lower embodied carbon and carbon-negative materials and work with suppliers to reduce their own emissions.
“HNI is committed to prioritizing renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions and waste in a meaningful way by driving sustainability in HNI’s processes and products,” Jeff Lorenger, HNI Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, said in a statement.
