Okta Achieves 100% RE Use
Okta announced Sept. 28 that it has reached 100% renewable electricity use for all its global offices and employees’ work-from-home consumption for the year.
The internet identity platform purchased renewable energy certificates equivalent to the electricity use from its global offices, including coworking spaces, and from employees working from home. The majority of RECs purchased by Okta will support the California Bright Schools solar program to fund solar projects across the state.
Okta offices have also increased their efficiency to receive both LEED Silver and WELL Silver certifications.
The company also released its Dynamic Work Greenhouse Gas Emissions Study, which found that Okta’s hybrid work framework caused employee emissions to drop 21% since before the system was implemented. This also took into account energy used by employees when working from home.
“As a business, the way we evaluate our environmental footprint has evolved along with the way we work. Just as we need to be responsible for the environmental impact of the buildings we occupy and the services we provide, now we need to account for and help our employees to understand, measure and reduce their environmental impact in this new distributed, Dynamic Work model,” Erin Baudo Felter, vice president of Social Impact & Sustainability at Okta, said in a statement. “This study is an important first step in understanding and quantifying our impact with Dynamic Work.”
