San Fransisco Taco Bells Install EV Charging Stations
Taco Bell restaurant locations in South San Francisco will soon be receiving DC fast electric vehicle chargers through a new infrastructure development project.
Tritium and ChargeNet announced Oct. 12 a new partnership focused on installing 75 kW chargers at fast food restaurants. The chargers will be capable of providing 46 miles of range after a 10-minute charge. The chargers will also be powered by a solar-plus-storage system, lowering costs and increasing resiliency.
The project is using funding from the California Energy Commission’s California Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project (CALeVIP) and the California Public Utilities Commission’s (CPUC) Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP). The funds specifically target low-income communities throughout the state of California.
Diversified Restaurant Group, Taco Bell’s parent company, will also pay nothing upfront due to ChargeNet’s service model and will receive a portion of the revenue generated by the chargers.
“This project is a shining example of integrating solar, battery storage, and DC fast charging to help fast food restaurants serve a rapidly expanding EV driver customer base,” Mike Calise, president of Americas at Tritium, said in a statement. “These are the types of innovative solutions that have a double benefit – decarbonizing the planet in the long-term, while creating more resilient businesses in the short-term.”
Work began on the installation last month and is expected to be completed by the end of October.
