UPS invests in electric delivery vans, orders 10,000 vehicles
UPS announced Jan. 29 that they have purchased 10,000 electric vehicles from Arrival, which will be rolled out in their UK, Europe and North America delivery routes from 2020 to 2024, and has made an investment in the UK-based electric van company.
During the duration of the four year agreement with Arrival, UPS will also have the option to purchase another order of 10,000 vehicles.
While the UPS venture capital arm announced that it made an investment in Arrival, they did not disclose the amount. Arrival and UPS have been working together to develop electric vehicles since 2016 as UPS continues toward its goal of a zero emissions fleet.
"Our investment and partnership with Arrival is directly aligned with UPS’s transformation strategy, led by the deployment of cutting-edge technologies," Carlton Rose, President of UPS Global Fleet Maintenance & Engineering, said in a statement. "These vehicles will be among the world’s most advanced package delivery vehicles, redefining industry standards for electric, connected and intelligent vehicle solutions."
The Generation 2 Electric Vehicles from Arrival are designed at 50% below traditional fleet operational costs and are uniquely designed to match the customers' desired weight, type, size and shape vehicle through a lower-cost, lower-carbon assembly process.
