Brambles Achieves Carbon Neutrality in Operations
Brambles announced June 23 that it has become carbon neutral in all its operations.
The global supply chain company launched a new sustainability program focused on regenerative supply chains and science-based emissions reduction after successfully completing a previous five-year sustainability program. While its recent carbon neutrality includes Scope 1 and 2 emissions, Brambles’ new targets include Scope 3 emissions generated by subcontractors.
To target its emissions, Brambles plans on increasing its purchasing of renewable energy. In 2020, the company achieved 70% renewable energy sourcing and purchased Energy Attribute Certificates for remaining energy use.
“I could not be prouder of this milestone,” CEO Graham Chipchase said in a statement. “But the work does not stop here. The real challenge lies ahead of us in advocating for our customers and suppliers to become carbon neutral in their operations, too. We will extend and build new partnerships with them to leverage the circular economy with the best available low and zero-carbon products and services to decarbonize our entire supply chain.”
Additional, unavoidable emissions not covered by the company’s emissions reduction projects will be offset through the purchase of carbon credits supported by reforestation projects. Brambles also recently joined the World Economic Forum’s 1t.Org Corporate Alliance committed to conserving, restoring and growing 1 trillion trees by 2030.
