Efforts to reduce lighting-related energy consumption have brought General Motors closer to its goal of reducing energy and carbon intensity by 20% from a 2010 baseline by 2020 and have generated more than $3 million in annual energy cost savings

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company reported a 15% reduction in manufacturing energy intensity and a 20% reduction in GHG emissions in 2017 compared to its 2010 baseline. Results were released as part of the company’s 2017 Corporate Responsibility Report.

Lockheed Martin implemented more than 70 energy efficiency and carbon reduction projects in 2017 as the company heads towards a series of 2020 energy management goals. Progress was detailed in their recently released 2017 Sustainability Report

Apple announced on July 12 the creation of a new investment fund in China to increase the use of renewable energy within its supply chain. The company will join 10 initial suppliers to invest nearly $300 million over the next four years into the China Clean Energy Fund, which will invest in and develop clean energy projects totaling more than 1 gigawatt of renewable energy in China.

General Motors announced a 20% increase in production of the Chevrolet Bolt EV electric car due to higher-than-expected demand from customers. GM reported a 40% jump in global sales for the EV model in the first half of 2018 year-over-year, driven by sales in the U.S., Canada, and South Korea.

Ford Motor Company announced that it has that it has achieved the company’s manufacturing emissions reduction goal eight years ahead of schedule. The goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 30% per vehicle by 2025 was set in 2010.

Hyundai announced a deal to use electric vehicle battery packs for energy storage applications.

Siemens, the German industrial firm, is piloting a project that uses ammonia as a new form of energy storage. The company hopes to prove that ammonia can be as useful as more established storage technologies, such as lithium-ion batteries, when it comes to managing the variable output of wind and solar power.
