MGM Resorts outlines 2025 energy, sustainability goals

MGM Resorts International announced Nov. 4 a new set of corporate responsibility goals that included energy reduction targets and increased diversity and inclusion.

In this announcement, the entertainment company set their goal to reduce carbon emissions per square foot by 45% and energy per square foot by 25% by 2025.

The company’s new sustainability program was titled Focused on What Matters: Embracing Humanity and Protecting the Plant and outlined their all 2025 goals. Additionally, the move included joining the UN Global Compact and aligning their goals with UN Sustainable Development Goals.

"As a company with a global presence and more than 80,000 employees worldwide, MGM Resorts recognizes our responsibility extends beyond simply serving our customers and growing our bottom line,” Chairman and CEO Jim Murren said in a statement. “Focused on What Matters elevates and builds upon our work and investments in responsible leadership and provides a roadmap for making the most meaningful, enduring impact possible. I am proud of the long-held values that have always guided how our organization addresses societal needs, and I am honored to lead MGM Resorts as we embark on this mission."

MGM Resort’s corporate responsibility goals also include spending at least 10% of their domestic biddable procurement spend with diverse suppliers, as well as creating an inclusive environment with equal access to employment and career growth opportunities.
