Travelers Commits to Carbon Neutrality by 2030
The Travelers Companies, Inc. has pledged to achieve net-zero emissions across its owned operations by 2030. Aligned with the Paris Climate Agreement, this goal will lower current CO2 emissions by 50,000 metric tons annually.
This target builds on Travelers’ previous successes in minimizing their carbon footprint. The company reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by over 40% from 2011 to 2020, has halved energy consumption at its largest location, is increasing its use of clean energy, and has had all of its owned locations ENERGY STAR® certified.
In 2020, Travelers also increased its Global Renewable Energy Practice by 40%. Through this practice, the property casualty insurance company supports renewable energy businesses by providing risk management products and services tailored to that industry.
“We take a thoughtful and comprehensive approach to sustainability,” said Alan Schnitzer, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Travelers, in a statement. “Through this commitment and other aspects of our longstanding approach to changing climate conditions, we are addressing a risk we all face and standing up to the responsibility we have to leave a better world for our children and future generations. We are pleased with the progress we have made over the years to reduce our carbon footprint, and we are proud to take our efforts to the next level.”
