Ralph Lauren Targets 2040 Global Net Zero
Ralph Lauren Corporation announced June 15 its new target to reach net-zero global emissions from its operations and value chain by 2040.
The fashion brand plans to cut its greenhouse gas emissions through carbon removal projects with Indigo Ag and by using 100% renewable energy in its stores, offices, and distribution centers by 2025.
This new commitment builds on the company’s previously-set goal to reduce emissions by 30% by 2030 based on 2020 levels. To reduce Scope 3 emissions, Ralph Lauren will work with suppliers to reduce their emissions at manufacturing facilities and switch to working with fibers that have a lower carbon footprint.
“Climate change is one of the most complex and challenging issues of our time — one that will require innovation, collaboration, technology, and a fundamental shift in behavior to solve,” Patrice Louvet, president and CEO of the Ralph Lauren Corporation, said in a statement. “Our net zero goal and roadmap are anchored in our belief that through deliberate action we can deliver the change required to reduce our climate impact and help create a more sustainable future for generations to come.”
For unavoidable emissions, Ralph Lauren will purchase fully equivalent carbon credits by 2040. The partnership with Indigo Ag supports farmers adopting sustainable farming practices, measures and validates the resulting carbon sequestration, and allows companies to support farmers’ transition.
