Lecta Receives SBTi Validation for Targets
Lecta, a Spanish manufacturer and distributor of specialty papers for labels and packaging, announced its GHG emissions reduction targets for 2030 have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
After a rigorous review process by its validation team, the SBTi approved Lecta's Scope 1 and Scope 2 targets, according to a statement.
With SBTi's endorsement and in line with its criteria, Lecta committed to a 40% absolute reduction in Scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions by 2030, using 2021 as the baseline year.
Lecta is launching a plan to improve energy efficiency in its plants, which will mean a significant reduction in energy consumption and emissions. Among all of its mills, over 100 improvement initiatives were identified that will allow the company to reduce its annual emissions by at a minimum 30,000 tons in the next three years and will involve investments worth multiple tens of millions.
The investment decisions pertaining to the decarbonization plan have progressed more slowly than initially anticipated, due to the prevailing market conditions that have affected the entire industry during 2023. Despite the challenges experienced during 2023, Lecta is committed to advancing its decarbonization initiatives through strategic decision-making and investment processes.
As required by SBTi and to ensure maximum transparency and accountability, Lecta will publicly report its progress on these goals.
In line with its ESG strategy, Lecta will continue promoting investments and projects aimed at achieving its decarbonization targets to help mitigate global warming.
