Iron Mountain inks PPA with Amazon wind project
Storage and information management company Iron Mountain Inc. has signed a power purchase agreement for 10% of the output of the recently announced Amazon Wind Farm Texas project.
In an Oct. 10 news release, Boston-headquartered Iron Mountain said the associated clean energy will provide as much as 30 % of its North American electricity footprint. The capacity — Iron Mountain's share is expected to be about 100,000 MWh per year — will be sufficient to power all of Iron Mountain's Texas operations, which comprise more than 75 facilities, as well as additional states.
The deal, Iron Mountain said, provides the company with long-term rate stability and as much as $1.5 million annually in related cost avoidance. The remaining 90% of the power generated from the wind project being built in Scurry County, Texas, is being sold via power purchase agreement to Amazon.com Inc.

"Renewable energy strategies, along with energy efficiency, are at the heart of our efforts to deliver both savings back to the company and look for opportunities to innovate."

Iron Moutain said the PPA, coupled with its recent signing of a 15-year agreement with a wind farm in Ringer Hill, Penn. as well as ongoing investments in solar projects throughout the U.S. and Canada, has positioned the company to be able to utilize renewable sources for two-thirds of its total North American electricity load by 2018.
The Amazon Wind Farm Texas project is expected to enter service in October 2017 and is owned by Lincoln Clean Energy LLC.
