Hertz and Tesla Team Up on EV Rental Fleet
Hertz announced Oct. 25 that it will be purchasing 100,000 Teslas to add to its rental fleet in an attempt to build the largest EV rental fleet in North America.
Under the deal, Tesla will provide the vehicles to the rental car company by the end of 2022, in addition to new EV charging infrastructure across Hertz’s global operations. Customers will be able to rent a Tesla Model 3 beginning in early November at Hertz airport and neighborhood locations in major U.S. markets and select European cities.
Hertz will be overseeing the installation of chargers throughout its network so that customers will have access to 3,000 stations throughout the U.S. and Europe. After the fulfillment of this order, Hertz’s global fleet will be made up of 20% electric vehicles and be supported by charging infrastructure in 65 markets by the end of 2022 and 100 markets by the end of 2023.
“Electric vehicles are now mainstream, and we've only just begun to see rising global demand and interest,” Mark Fields, Hertz interim CEO, said in a statement. “The new Hertz is going to lead the way as a mobility company, starting with the largest EV rental fleet in North America and a commitment to grow our EV fleet and provide the best rental and recharging experience for leisure and business customers around the world.”
Hertz is also partnering with football player Tom Brady to act as the face of the new campaign advertising the partnership between Tesla and Hertz.
