Ecolab Achieves 100% RE in Europe, Adds EVs

Ecolab Inc., a global sustainability company providing water, hygiene and infection prevention solutions and services, achieved 100% renewable electricity in its European operations, bringing the company 80% of the way toward its goal of 100% renewable electricity globally by 2030.

In 2022, Ecolab and Low Carbon entered into an agreement to develop the Mörknässkogen windfarm, located on the west coast of Finland near the city of Vaasa. The windfarm has now reached full commercial operation, and its 30-MW capacity will generate approximately 100 GWh of electricity annually to avoid 20,000 tons of CO2e annually.

By sourcing the power produced by the windfarm, Ecolab will cover 100% of the electricity used across all of its European sites, including 15 major offices, 26 manufacturing facilities and seven RD&E centers.

The company also accelerated its plans to convert its sales and service fleet in North America to electric vehicles by 2030.

Ecolab selected Ford Pro™, Ford’s commercial division, to accelerate the electrification of its sales and service fleet, targeting complete North American fleet electrification by 2030.

Electrification of Ecolab’s North American fleet begins in California with the conversion of its sales and service vehicles to EVs by 2025. Ecolab will purchase and deploy more than 1,000 Ford F-150® Lightning® Pro trucks and Mustang® Mach-E® SUVs.

Details were released in its 2023 Growth & Impact Report, which documents the company’s performance on economic, environmental, social and governance topics.

“Ecolab sees a future that is net positive, where businesses can grow both their bottom lines and their positive impact on the world,” said Christophe Beck, Chairman and CEO of Ecolab, in a statement. “We delivered our best year yet in 2023, and our new Growth & Impact Report illustrates how collaborating with customers and partners is helping build a positive future.”

In 2023, Ecolab worked with customers to help avoid 3.8 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
