Sprint to power all VA operations with renewables
Sprint announced Jan. 16 that all of its 800 Virginia locations will now be running on renewable energy, including its retail locations, cell phone towers and corporate offices, which account for more than 88,000 MWh of electricity per year.
In November, the communications company committed to becoming carbon neutral across all operations by 2025. The agreement will allow Sprint to source the renewable energy from Direct Energy Renewable Services.
"Being a sustainable company is an all-in commitment," Chas Peterson, Head of Sprint Procurement and Supply Chain, said in a statement. "Working with Direct Energy allows us to be a leader on renewable energy in Virginia, and to diversify our portfolio as Sprint works to attain carbon neutrality across all operations nationwide by 2025."
In September, Sprint also signed a 12-year VPPA for 173.3 MW of wind energy from a development in Texas, which is expected to come online this year. This was the company’s first VPPA along the path to becoming 100% carbon neutral.
